INTA comes to Africa!


"if the mountain won't come to Muhammad, Muhammad must go to the mountain"


This year the International Trade Mark Association (INTA) will host its first ever conference in Africa. The meeting is set to take place in Cape Town South Africa at a venue as close to the foot of Table Mountain as one can get, the Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel.


INTA will host two meetings from the 31st of August to the 2nd of September 2016. A one day ICC-BASCAP conference focusing on counterfeit goods and piracy in Africa and a two day INTA conference with various presentations on IP prosecution and enforcement in Africa.


The conference program is set out as follows;

On 31 August INTA and the International Chamber of Commerce Business Action to Stop Counterfeiting and Piracy (ICC - BASCAP) will host a one-day workshop on "Intermediaries and Rights Holders - Working Together to Stop Counterfeiting and Piracy." Maura Canavan from Rouse Africa will facilitate the session on preventing illicit goods crossing borders. Full details of the conference can be found here


on 1-2 September INTA will host a two-day conference on "Building Africa with Brands. Leading businesses" The conference speakers will be local and international IP experts who will share their knowledge of this fast developing continent. Nick Redfearn from Rouse will be speaking on navigating through the various IP enforcement practices in Africa.
